I have entered the world of vlogging

I actually find it easier to talk instead of write most days.  So … I have begun vlogging about all things crafty.

You can find vlog posts on YouTube HERE, and I am totally open to suggestions for future vlog posts!

I know that Halloween is not very popular in Australia.  I’ve actually never really had any interest in it.  But now I am the mother of teenagers, and not just any old teenagers.  My girls love to cosplay, and when you put as much time & effort into those costumes, you want to show them off as often as you can!  They have great friends, and they all love to dress up and cosplay too.  There was also the issue of trick or treating … it’s very hilly here (VERY hilly, almost cliff-like!) and trudging around the neighbourhood to find a handfull of houses happy to have trick or treaters (and it is always HOT) is just awful.  We hate the safety aspect, and hate bothering the neighbours.  And so, our annual halloween party was born.

Thank goodness for Pinterest, I say!  I also have a friend who actually does love Halloween, who graciously (and enthusiastically) assisted me last year, and again this year.  We keep it pretty simple, and shop for halloween decorations when they’re marked down the week after halloween 😉  Actually … this year hubby was lucky enough to be in the USA in the weeks leading up to Halloween.  Have a look at what he found at Disneyland!

It really did get him into the spirit of it … and so he dressed up this year.  The costume unravelled pretty fast, but it was fun!

A new school term, a new location

No … I am not moving house (I’m a bit nuts, but not totally crazy!).  I am, however, moving the blog over to my website.  This content will stay here, but new blog posts will be over at DawnLewis.com.au

Now that I’m playing with so many social media platforms, I think it’s time to streamline.  Add to the mix … writing my first book, Secretary for Angel Gowns for Australian Angel Babies, 2 kids still struggling with high school, planning 2 overseas vacations (sadly, not for myself), and trying to make time for all that day to day stuff … well … I’m a teeny bit busy (and loving it!!!).

You can find the new blog HERE, just click the ‘Blog’ tab up the top.  There will be some old projects there, but new stuff too 😀

Video – Masking with Stamps

Masking with Stamps intro

I get a lot of questions about how to stamp layered images, and the solution is masking.  It’s difficult to explain with words, so today I made a video showing you how easy it is to create a stamp mask using post-it notes.

The ingredients were pretty simple …

Pattern Paper – Studio Calico, Here + There collection
Cardstock – White (card base) + black (mats)
Blending Card (for copic colouring)
Black ink – Memento Ink, Tuxedo Black (octopus images)
Greeting ink – Close To My Heart, Lagoon
Sweet Stamp Shop – Mr. Octopus and Just the Basics (greeting)
Copic Markers – Octopus BG10, BG11, BG13 – Laptop C0, C1, C2, C3, B0000, B00, 0 – Mug Y11, Y13, Y15, Y17 – Doughnut E30, E31, E33, RV11, RV13, RV14
Double sided tape and Foam tape
Scissors & Trimmer
Post-it Notes

My oldest friend

Dawn & Jacquie 2009

This is my (left) and my oldest friend in the world (right), Jacquie.  I have known her longer than any of my peers, even my own sister.  Lordy but this girl is tough, with a sharp wit and wicked sense of humour, sassy, talented, kind and giving.  She has endured more ill health, surgeries, treatments and tests than anyone I know.  Yet she smiles and doesn’t let you be all sad and mournful.

It came as a huge shock to hear that her body had taken her as far as it could, and I felt helpless living on the other side of the country.  I cashed in my flybuys points and went to see her 2 months ago.  We chatted and laughed, drank tea and even were busted napping together (just like old times!).  Her family hosted me, ferried me around and we just enjoyed talking about our girls, and catching up.  As I flew out on the red eye from Perth I knew it was the last time I would see her.  Last night the news arrived … she has gone.  My heart breaks for her beautiful girls, her loving husband and devoted parents & siblings.  Again I feel helpless sitting here on the other side of the country, wishing there was something practical I could do to make them feel better.  With all my heart I believe that she is in a better place, with an unscarred body that will no longer fail her beautiful spirit.  RIP my oldest friend.
